Christmas Greetings
> 2001
The poem I wrote for this year was all about chads and recounts but after 9/11, I had to write a new one.
'Twas the month before Christmas and down by the shore Our Christmas spirit was finally returning as before Our patriotism was strong, we were proud of our nation It was time to get ready for our Christmas celebration When out on the street we heard a commotion What was it? We hadn't even the slightest notion When what to our wondering eyes should we spy But a jolly old Santa carrying a banner so high He was marching about with his reindeer and elves They were not dressed usually like themselves For the reindeer all had bows of red, white and blue And the elves were outfitted in these colors too Santa himself wore his customary red and white suit And naturally his black belt, green gloves and black boot But we looked on his shoulder at his toy filled bag And saw that it resembled an American flag Also Santa was carrying the symbol of the nation we love He carried it proudly and waved it above The red, white and blue were so strong and so true And expressed the feelings that we now send to you May your holidays be peaceful, filled with love and with care May our country stay free and safe for all to enjoy - everywhere *Copyrighted material
