‘Twas
a few weeks before Christmas on a cold, wintry day
I was going shopping from OC to
Stores in these towns were unique and quite small
The selection was different than found at the mall
We crossed the bridge to Strathmere/Sea Isle
Most shops were closed, we stayed a short while
Next was Avalon, then the
We wanted to stay and shop for weeks
The stores were crowded with shoppers like me
They all carried packages and one had a tree
Despite their quest for that perfect gift or toy
The spirit of Christmas prevailed – what a joy
We continued our trip south on Ocean Drive
But something was different - the air came alive
Something magical was happening “down the shore”
The Wildwood boardwalk was different than before
Missing were the barkers and all their noise
Hawking their enormous and varied stuffed toys
Also noticeably missing, besides the crowds on the sand,
Was the “Watch the tram car please” command
All Morey’s Piers had somehow now become one
Filled with Santa’s helpers having so much fun
And there was Santa looking fat and so jolly
In his bright red suit trimmed with berries and holly
The amusements were full of reindeer and elves
Who obviously were thoroughly enjoying themselves
They were laughing, squealing and screaming this day
As were those in the water park splashing away
Santa wanted to treat all those who worked day and night
Helping him get ready for his worldwide flight
So here they were riding, eating and having fun
“Thank you Santa and helpers for all you have done”
No one will ever forget the thrill of the girls and boys
When they open their gifts and see all their toys
The gifts of love and the gifts of sharing
Are all encompassed in these gifts of caring
May you all have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
