‘Twas two weeks before Christmas, winter was nearly here A light snow was falling, the first flakes of the year Tiny bright lights twinkled merrily night and day On most of the buildings from ocean to bay Our home was all decorated with candles aglow The presents sat prettily under the tree Some for the children, some for Bob, some for me Despite the weather and the time of the day I didn’t want to leave; I wanted to stay But always wanting to find that gift that’s just right I decided to shop the sales at midnight Cars and trucks were parked every which way And believe it or not, so was a sleigh And inside to my wondering eyes did I see A fat jolly elf known to you and to me There were elves in the aisles and elves passing by All pushing carts filled with toys piled high There were electronics and games and books and toys To help fill the stockings of good girls and boys Then Santa explained that time was so tight He had to come shopping in the stores at night I still was perplexed why they were here at the shore And not at the Pole making toys and much more Seems one of the machines had a computer glitch When one of the elves pushed a malfunctioning switch Now bikes had no wheels, the trains all had faces Soldiers and dolls both had limbs in wrong places Computers did nothing and horns didn’t toot Ipods and cell phones unfortunately were mute Clothes for children, teens and the adults too All were tattered and looked old not new Regardless Christmas will come to all worldwide And Santa must be ready for his yearly ride So the elves are out shopping like you and like me Now Santa’s gifts will be under everyone’s tree Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
