‘Twas the night before Christmas, we were nowhere near done The tree wasn’t trimmed nor the stockings hung Still had presents to wrap and cookies to bake This had to be done before all were awake Lights, balls and tinsel were stacked by the tree Hoping to get to them eventually When out of the blue there arose such a sound We were almost afraid to turn around And what to my wondering eyes did I see But Santa Clause smiling kindly at me He was dressed all in red – a fat, jolly, old elf But he had not come just by himself Elves were scurrying all around the tree Some in the kitchen, some around me What surprised me most was the absence of toys That Santa carries for good girls and boys Santa explained that he had some moments to spare To help good friends in lands everywhere So before he leaves on his journey at night He helps them out in their “not finished” plight To his nose gave a twitch - to his eye gave a wink The elves did their work before I could blink
The tree was decorated with ornaments galore There were stockings hung and a wreath on the door The cookies were cooling in neat little rows And the gifts were all wrapped with shiny red bows
The room was sparkling with nothing amiss Never before had it looked quite like this To his elves, Santa called, with a nod of his head And as quick as they came, they had left instead
But before he left, Santa asked us to convey His warmest wishes on this Christmas day MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR! |
