This page is dedicated to YOU - with information so that your stay in Ocean City will be enjoyable. Be it spring, summer, winter or fall...Ocean City is the best of all. There is always something for you to do or see.

Ocean City is known as "America's Greatest Family Resort" as it caters to all members of your family. There are 8 miles of nice, clean, guarded beaches along the whole coast. Beach tags are required from June through Labor Day. 2010 seasonal tags cost  -  Ocean City Beach Tag information 2010. (Season $20 - Weekly $10 - Daily $5) The boardwalk runs for 2.5 miles from the North end of the town to 23rd Street. During the summer you can ride a bicycle or surrey on the boardwalk between the hours of 5:00 - 11:00 AM. New Jersey law requires helmets to be worn by children under the age of 14 years. This law does NOT apply to riding on the boardwalk, however. Stores, eateries and amusements are dotted along this walk with a newly renovated area from 12th - 14th Street - including new restrooms fro your comfort. Asbury Avenue, in the center of town, boasts boutique shops along with a small department store. Probably the most unique thing about Ocean City is that it is a "dry" town....you cannot buy or be served any alcohol on this barrier island. Atlantic City is 30 minutes away driving north while Cape May can be reached in about the same time going south. The weather temperature in the summer ranges from around 70 to 90 degrees.

The following steps have been recommended
by the American Academy of Dermatology
and the Skin Cancer Foundation
to help reduce the risk of sunburn and skin cancer

  • Minimize your exposure to the sun at midday and between the hours of 10:00AM and 3:00PM.

  • Apply sunscreen with at least a SPF-15 or higher, to all areas of the body which are exposed to the sun.

  • Reapply sunscreen every two hours, even on cloudy days. Reapply after swimming or perspiring.

  • Wear clothing that covers your body and shades your face.

  • Avoid exposure to UV radiation from sunlamps or tanning parlors.

  • Protect your children. Keep them from excessive sun exposure when the sun is strongest (10:00AM and 3:00PM), and apply sunscreen liberally and frequently to children 6 months of age and older.

  • Do not use sunscreen on children under 6 months of age. Parents with children under 6 months of age should severely limit their children's sun exposure.

  • Always consult a physician with your questions concerning the health effects of UV exposure.

Between 10 AM and 3 PM, the UV light is the most damaging. Protect yourself and your children by wearing the right clothes, sunscreen and staying out of the sun. For children with extremely sun-sensitive skin, there is a company called Sun Precautions that offers clothing that protects the skin. There is also a sun-protective laundry additive, made by RIT, called Sun Guard that can be washed into clothing.

Activities in Ocean City

Being on the beach either sunbathing or swimming is the number one fun thing to do. Biking and surrey riding on the boardwalk until 11:00 AM are also right up there. There are playgrounds scattered all over this island, a public golf course, an excellent library and community center. There are two great locations with basketball and tennis courts for the "never grow old" crowd. Miniature golf courses can be found on the boardwalk along with a waterslide, amusements of all kinds, movie theaters, shopping and lots of food. If you want, there is a great zoo just 20 minutes away and it's free...and then there are the casinos in Atlantic City. For your information, there are two hospitals very close by - Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point and Cape Regional Medical Center, formerly known as Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital, in Cape May Court House.
