Home > Stone Harbor and Avalon Stone Harbor and Avalon share this South Jersey island which is known as "Seven Mile Beach". It is seven miles long but only three or four city blocks wide. Avalon is situated at the northern end and Stone Harbor at the southern end. Stone Harbor's half of the island extends from 80th Street to Hereford Inlet. Geographically it is midway between Ocean City and Cape May. Stone Harbor is known as "The Seashore at its Best" and Avalon is "Cooler by a Mile". Stone Harbor is known for its exclusive shopping district characterized by quaint shops that satisfy everyone's shopping desires from trendy boutiques, unusual specialty gifts to souvenirs . Avalon also has great shopping. Both are also famous for their great restaurants and spectacular beach front homes. Where other resorts are dotted with "cookie cutter" condos block after block, Stone Harbor has maintained its charming quaint town look with mostly single family homes - some absolutely magnificent! Tree lined streets add to its charm. Stone Harbor boasts some of the most expensive real estate in southern New Jersey. Stone Harbor and Avalon boast beautiful protected beaches which stretch the length of the island. These resort towns are both is a clean, quiet, family resorts where you can enjoy a casual, peaceful and relaxed seashore atmosphere. Beach tags are required - $5.00 daily, $10 weekly, $22 season ($17 if bought before June 1) Tags are required May 18th through September 6 and must be worn by persons 12 years of age and over Avalon's claim that it is "Cooler by a Mile" stems from the fact that it extends one mile further into the ocean than neighboring resorts. Avalon is a quiet, relaxing community where the ocean water is sparkling and the white sandy beaches are spacious. You can sun on the beach, splash in the surf, play in the sand, read a book or just sit and enjoy the sights and sounds of the breaking waves and the seagulls as they soar overhead. Avalon features a modest boardwalk, and for those seeking a more active vacation, a large fleet of excursion fishing boats are available. Whatever your choice, here is where you can enjoy these cool summer breezes. Vacationers do not have to become beach potatoes. There are many outdoor activities they can pursue such as swimming, fishing and boating, sailing, surfing, jet skiing, tennis, volleyball, golf, shell collecting or just lazing on the beach. The island is dotted with playgrounds, and the municipality itself runs supervised recreational activities including basketball, soccer, baseball, and teen dances.
